Lee Howgate was an Assistant Headteacher at Saltash Community School until December 2019
Lee Howgate is a highly qualified English teacher and tutor. He has taught English at all levels within the 11-18 age range and is therefore well aware of common areas of difficulty. Lee has spent many years helping students to achieve their potential. Many of his students have achieved the high grades they need for University entrance.
Qualifications
Lee Howgate has been a teacher since 1996, with 8 years as Head of English at RGS Worcester and Teign Schools. He subsequently spent 3 years as an Assistant Headteacher at Saltash Community School. Here, he was in charge of Teaching and Learning. Lee has taught KS3, GCSE and A-level English. Additionally, he has taught Politics A-level, History GCSE, Geography and Media Studies. He is married to his wife Sarah (who also teaches) and he has two teenage children.

Jenny Evans - English Tuition
Jenny Evans has been teaching English and History for 35 years in London and Plymouth. She has 30 years’ experience as Head of Humanities / Head of History at two Plymouth schools: Tamar High School (a mixed grammar) and Notre Dame School.
Her department at Notre Dame was praised for its students’ high attainment levels in successive OFSTED reports between 1995 and 2017. For instance, her results were significantly above national averages.
Alongside teaching English Language and Literature at GCSE and KS3, Jenny Evans has taught History at A level, GCSE and KS3, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), A level Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and A level General Studies. Jenny has also taught a number of other subjects in the early years of her long and successful teaching career. This reflects her ability to adapt and be flexible in meeting the varied needs of her students.

Jayne Ashenbury - English Tuition
As Head of Drama at Plymouth College, Jayne was fortunate enough to teach a diverse range of students over many years. Alongside her work as Head of Drama, Jayne also taught English to students in years 7-11.
Jayne Ashenbury has been a teacher of English and Drama in state and private schools for more than 25 years, working with secondary aged students for 20 of those years.

Jayne Ashenbury (QTS) has a BEd.(Hons) Degree in English & Drama from Reading University. She has been a teacher of English and Drama in state and private schools for more than 25 years, most recently as Head of Drama at Plymouth College Independent School. She is DBS checked.
Since 2015, Jayne has been a peripatetic teacher offering one-to-one specialist learning support, English tuition and Drama teaching to students aged 11-16. She is therefore a very experienced SEND tutor with considerable and particular experience of students with dyslexia. Additionally, she also has lots of experience teaching and supporting students with English as a second language.
Jayne teaches English to GCSE across several specifications and supports students learning by building confidence, self-esteem and developing practical skills. Jayne helps students to cope with the pressures of school, exams and the world outside. She also offers support with written drama in preparation for exams.

Sharon Perry - English Tuition
Sharon has been teaching English since completing her PGCE at the University of Oxford in 1985.

She has an excellent record of success with exam classes and has also taught adults in further and higher education. Sharon is up to date in the safeguarding of students and is DBS checked.

Since 2017, Sharon has taught English at the EF Academy Torbay, Torquay. She has experience teaching English language and literature to A-level, IB and also IGCSE. In fact, Sharon consistently has 100% pass rate at IGCSE English. She also teaches English as a Second Language.

Early career
After completing her PGCE at Oxford, Sharon worked for 2 years at Lingnan University, Hong Kong as a Teacher of English language and literature. Here, she taught A-level English literature and diploma level courses in English rhetoric and debate. She achieved a high success rate with all classes.
Sharon then took a job at The British Council, Penang, Malaysia as a Teacher of EFL. Here, Sharon taught all levels from beginner to advanced general English, exam classes and business English. Again she enjoyed a high success rate with FCE and CPE examinations.
Back in the UK
On her return to Britain, Sharon took up a post at Charters Ancaster/Beresford House School, Sussex as Teacher of English language and literature. Sharon again taught all levels from Years 7-13. Her GCSE and A-level language and literature exam classes again enjoying high pass rates. During this time, Sharon was also ESL teacher of overseas students and coordinator of overseas boarding students.
Borneo

Between 1994 and 2016, Sharon worked for the Ministry of Education in Brunei, Borneo. Sharon had a position as a Teacher of English language, literature and EFL. Additionally, she was an IELTS Examiner. In Borneo, Sharon taught English language and literature to A-level, IGCSE, GCSE and Overseas O-level. She enjoyed success rates of over 90% at A*-C in public exams and was a mentor for university student teachers.
Home again
Sharon returned to the UK again in 2016 and has been teaching English at the EF Academy Torbay, Torquay.
She is interested in the environment, particularly the destruction of the rainforest having witnessed its effects first-hand in SE Asia and she takes part in charity runs to raise awareness of its plight. Sharon hopes to pursue this further by volunteering to help promote aid to Borneo for the preservation of its jungle.
